Johanna Costigan

Johanna Costigan Headshot

Johanna M. Costigan is a writer and Junior Fellow at the Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis. Her writing focuses on China’s digital governance, modern history and contested memory, and heterogeneous publics. She has an MSc in Contemporary Chinese Studies from the University of Oxford and graduated from Bard College with degrees in East Asian studies and Written Arts. Previously, she was Managing Editor at Stanford’s DigiChina Project and a Senior Writing Fellow at NYU Shanghai. She speaks Mandarin Chinese. Her writing has been featured in Foreign Policy, The Diplomat, The China Project, Nikkei Asia, MERICS, the Los Angeles Review of Books China Channel, and other outlets.
