India’s National ETS: Prospects and Stakeholder Perspectives
Issue Brief

The Government of India’s announcement regarding the creation of an Indian Carbon Market is a path-breaking one. This development follows numerous other announcements on India’s commitment to getting to net zero and ambition for climate change mitigation.
In this context, The Council on Energy, Environment, and Water (CEEW) in partnership with the Asia Society Policy Institute conducted an industry stakeholder dialogue to understand their perspectives on India’s recent policy developments. This new paper, India’s National ETS: Prospects and Stakeholder Perspectives takes key findings from the dialogue and examines the establishment of India’s Carbon Market including key typologies, the policy landscape, recent developments, and primary concerns of stakeholders, and presents its recommendations.
