Ian Lane Smith

Ian Lane Smith is a Research Associate (Editorial) at the Asia Society Policy Institute's Center for China Analysis (CCA). He edits the center’s reports and newsletters as well as formulates its communications strategy.
Prior to joining CCA, Ian worked in publications and outreach at the National Bureau of Asian Research, providing impactful reports and programming on matters critical to policymakers. Some years ago, he also served in the U.S. Air Force as a weather forecaster. Ian holds an MA in Japan Studies from the University of Washington (Seattle), where he was honored with the Jackson School of International Studies Book Award for graduating as the student with the school’s highest cumulative GPA.
