Governance for Strengthening SDG-Climate Synergies
VIEW EVENT DETAILS
How can governance systems bridge the gap between climate action and Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)? While the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda share many objectives, progress remains insufficient, with only 13.6% of SDG targets on track. Integrating governance across sectors is essential for building climate resilience, economic stability, and equity, ensuring that no one is left behind in the transition to sustainable development.
Various mechanisms, like emissions trading systems (ETSs) and climate finance, are being implemented to support these goals. ETSs, for instance, can generate substantial revenue for climate initiatives while promoting a just energy transition, as seen in India's Carbon Credit Trading Scheme. Similarly, multilateral efforts focus on improving governance for complex challenges, aligning climate and SDG actions for greater impact.
This session, hosted by the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI), The Energy and Resources Institute (TERI), TERI School of Advanced Studies, German Advisory Council on Global Change, Global Development Institute (GDI), Bangladesh Environmental Lawyers Association (BELA), aims to advance dialogue on innovative governance approaches, financing mechanisms, and collaborative initiatives to enhance SDG-climate synergy.
