Imagining Batanes
VIEW EVENT DETAILS“Imagining Batanes” is an intimate conversation with Ivatan artists Victoria Abad-Kerblat and Xavier Abelador, who have travelled to present A Year in Batanes, Firetree Press’ maiden publication. This limited edition book and journal curates the vivid watercolors and narratives of the seasons, lives, and cultures that make up these remote, beautiful isles. Joining them for this exploration is Ivatan anthropologist Prof. Edwin Valientes, who will present insights on the cultural treasures of the Ivatan people. Images from the book, as well as stunning pictures of these isles from fine art photographer Raena Abella, will be displayed during the event, and shall form part of Retrato, the photo archive of Filipinas Heritage Library. “Imagining Batanes” is presented by Firetree Press, The Jorge, Aurora, and Pacita Abad Memorial Foundation, Inc., Asia Society Philippines, and Filipinas Heritage Library. Cocktails will be served and limited, inscribed copies of the book will be available to purchase through the Ayala Museum gift shop.
