Colors of Freedom: Inclusivity through art and India’s 75th year of Independence

Last August 14th, 2022, Sprout together with Asia Society Philippines, held its 6th Annual Fundraiser, Art Contest and Cultural Event, Colors of Freedom, at the Sky Park, SM Aura Premier in Taguig City, Philippines.

Sprout 2

Sprout, the first art school in Manila to bring awareness on the importance of “Art & Creativity towards a Sustainable Life”, was established and founded in 2017 by Ms. Aditi Ahuja. It is a comprehensive art curriculum with an open-ended program that aims at building imagination, curiosity, and innovation through art training. Sprout is open for all individuals regardless of age and individual needs – offering curated art classes, both online and in-person.

Every year, Sprout highlights the importance of art towards sustainability in life of persons with disabilities (PWDs) and creates both awareness and a safe and learning environment. This year, (with the celebration of India’s 75th Independence Anniversary) their program aptly took on a global theme of the Indian Independence Day Community Event & Art Contest.

The program was made open for everyone and more than boasted Indian and Filipino cultural performances and various Indian food and products for sale; alongside art activities for PWDs and their families. The program culminated with an art exhibit, Colors of Freedom, highlighting art created by PWDs.

Aditi Ahuja

“Creativity is inherent in the souls of each one alive.”

Ms. Aditi Ahuja, artist, founder, and program director at Sprout remarks, “Creativity is inherent in the souls of each one alive.”; and Sprout, reflective of its founder’s vision, sets out to create and raise awareness, imbibe inclusivity in all that it does, all while integrating both fun activities and the element of art in its programs. Truly, no one is left out in a language as universal as art.
