Asia Society Philippines holds Intimate Gathering for Asia 21 and Stakeholders
17 October 2016, Manila – Asia Society Philippines recently hosted an intimate gathering with the Philippine trustees, board of advisors, and Asia 21 Philippine Young Leaders last October 14. Leading up to the Asia 21 Summit in December, in Seoul, it was important for the Asia 21 Philippine alumni to get to know each other and meet the Philippine Trustees.
Doris Ho, Chair of Asia Society Philippine Foundation (ASPF) generously opened her home for the affair. Suyin Lee, Executive Director for Asia Society Philippines, shared what was in store for ASPF – such as conducting ASEAN related events in 2017, potentially hosting the Asia 21 Summit in 2018, and celebrating Asia Society Philippine’s 20th anniversary in 2019. Emphasizing the local and regional focus, Lee noted that the program themes that "keep the Philippine center awake at night are national issues of good governance and anti-poverty efforts, territorial disputes, terrorism, foreign relations, and ASEAN integration."
Kathryn Cardenas, Program Officer for Global Initiatives of Asia Society, presented the vision of the Asia 21 initiative and its upcoming projects. Cardenas emphasized the need to leverage the existence of the tremendous brain capital of the network by collaborating and utilizing Asia Society as a platform to engage in impactful and sustainable partnerships.
Each guest was then asked to introduce themselves, describe their work or advocacy, and share how they could support nation building as a member of Asia Society.
Doris Ho capped off the evening by highlighting that this gathering was just the beginning and that everyone must come together and act on these shared challenges.
The special roundtable discussions were participated by Philippine trustees Enrique Gonzales, Myla Villanueva, Fernando Zobel de Ayala, along with advisors Amb. Delia Albert and Marvin Fausto. Asia 21 Philippine Young Leaders in attendance were: Ibba Bernardo, Arnel Casanova, Clarissa Delgado, Cecile Dominguez, Doris Dumlao, Ivan Henares, Ching Jorge, Martin Lopez, Anna Meloto-Wilk, and Cora de Ungria.
