On December 13, 2017, five esteemed panelists spoke in front of a sold-out crowd at "Trump, Moon and the 'Ironclad' Alliance: Responding to North Korea’s Nuclear Ambitions." Professor Thomas B. Gold of University of California, Berkeley and Asia Society Northern California's Advisory Board offered the introductory remarks for the evening. Starting off the discussion was Assistant Executive Director Margaret Conley of Asia Society Northern California as the moderator for the evening.

The five speakers included Deputy Consul General Jimin Kim of the Consulate General of the Republic of Korea in San Francisco; Diplomat in Residence and Senior Fellow Daniel Russel of the Asia Society Policy Institute; Distinguished Research Fellow Kori Schake from the Hoover Institution at Stanford University; Professor Stephan Haggard, Lawrence and Sallye Krause Professor of Korea-Pacific Studies and Director of the Korea-Pacific Program the University of California, San Diego; and Professor Sung-Yoon Lee, Kim Koo-Korea Foundation Professor in Korean Studies and Assistant Professor at the Fletcher School of Tufts University.

After the formal panel discussion and questions from the audience, members experienced the culinary delights of Surisan SF, a local Korean restaurant.
