Her 2020 Report provides an incisive analysis of China's business and entrepreneurial market trends under the impact of COVID-19. The discussion was moderated by Asia Society Northern California Innovator Member Johanna Hoopes.
Edith Yeung is a general partner at Race Capital and author and creator of the China Internet Report, an annual report on China technology trends widely popular among investors and corporate executives and Silicon.news – weekly briefing on Silicon Valley funding, merger, and acquisition news.
She has invested in over 50 startups including Lightyear/Stellar (valued $1.2B), Silk Labs (acquired by Apple), Chirp (acquired by Apple), Fleksy (acquired by Pinterest), Human (acquired by Mapbox), Solana, Oasis Labs, Nebulas, Hooked, DayDayCook, AISense, and many more.
Prior to Race Capital, Edith was a partner at 500 Startups, the world’s most active early-stage fund and incubator invested in Twilio, Credit Karma, Grab, and 2000 more companies. Before 500, Edith was the general manager at Dolphin Browser, a Sequoia-backed mobile browser with over 150 million installs worldwide. Edith also worked with many Fortune 500 companies such as Siebel, AMS, AT&T Wireless and Autodesk.
She frequently speaks on China and Silicon Valley technology and investment landscape. She is also a frequent guest lecturer at Berkeley and Stanford and commentator on BBC, CNBC, Wall Street Journal, Bloomberg, SCMP, Techcrunch, etc.
Johanna Hoopes serves as a Managing Director at TrailRunner, focusing on international communications strategy with a strong emphasis on China.
Johanna brings more than a decade of strategic communications experience in managing initiatives for multinational companies in China. She enjoys working with a range of US, European and Chinese clients across a range of sectors, including the automotive, real estate, finance, gaming, and sports industries.
Johanna formerly served as a contributing writer for Forbes China, and also as editor of City Weekend Shanghai. Johanna has strong media relationships in China, and she also has extensive experience in producing video, photo and written content, advising on digital strategy and arranging special initiatives for senior thought leaders, including global CEOs, professional athletes, and celebrities across Asia. She also has deep experience in crisis management, stakeholder relations, community building, and brand localization in China.
She is a graduate of Boston University, a Startingbloc fellow, and received her MBA from the University of South Carolina where she completed an exchange year at Fudan University in Shanghai.
