Asia Society Member Event

Wendy Cutler RT

Join Asia Society Northern California for an off-the-record Executive Roundtable discussion on the Indo-Pacific Economic Framework (IPEF) with Wendy Cutler, Vice President of the Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) and managing director of the Asia Society Washington, D.C. office. This private event is for Asia Society Members and will be held on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 from 12:30 p.m. - 2:20 p.m. Pacific in Silicon Valley. Lunch will be served.

IPEF negotiations are expected to be formally launched at a September 8th-9th meeting of trade ministers in Los Angeles with thirteen initial partners: Australia, Brunei, India, Indonesia, Fiji, Japan, Republic of Korea, Malaysia, New Zealand, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam, that represent 40% of world GDP. U.S. foreign direct investment in the region totaled more than $969 billion in 2020 and has nearly doubled in the last decade, and the U.S. is the leading exporter of services to the region, helping fuel regional growth. Trade with the Indo-Pacific supports more than three million American jobs and is the source of nearly $900 billion in foreign direct investment in the United States. With 60 percent of the world’s population, the IndoPacific is projected to be the largest contributor to global growth over the next 30 years.

Wendy will discuss the challenges facing IPEF negotiators as they grapple with some of the most pressing trade and economic issues facing the region and join us in-person from Washington, D.C.  She will be accompanied by a delegation of a dozen Emerging Female Leaders from ASEAN countries who are traveling with Wendy as part of an intensive 10-day long international trade training program in New York, Washington D.C., and San Francisco.

This Executive Roundtable Program is a special benefit for our Asia Society Members. Learn more and become a member today: https://asiasociety.org/northern-california/join-our-community. Members… will be verified by Asia Society. We will send you the RSVP confirmation via Eventbrite* one week before the program begins.
