Event Recap: Consuls General on International Security and the Path to Peace

With San Francisco Consuls General from Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine

March 22, 2023 — Asia Society Northern California hosted four San Francisco-based Consuls General from Georgia, Japan, Kazakhstan, and Ukraine on how their nations are approaching international security and what peace looks like in their respective countries. Event speakers consisted of the following:

  • Gloria Duffy (moderator), CEO of The Commonwealth Club of California
  • Levan Beridze, Consul General of Georgia to San Francisco
  • Yasushi Noguchi, Consul General of Japan in San Francisco
  • Azamat Abdraimov, Consul General of Kazakhstan in San Francisco
  • Dmytro Kushneruk, Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco

A proclamation from the City of Union City and Contra Costa County, California was presented to the Consul General of Ukraine in San Francisco.

Guests line up as they are welcomed to the cultural reception with food and drink from represented countries.

Many trays of Japanese food are served to guests including sushi, edamame, Inari, spinach, and eggplant.

The Ukraine booth presents various dishes and cultural items, shared and explained by Polina Krasnova, Executive Director of Art of Ukraine.

Guests had the opportunity to enjoy Kazakh food prepared by the Consulate - delicacies like Pilaf, Manti, Samsa, and Baursak were served.

Miras Temirbolat plays the Dombyra, a traditional Kazakh musical instrument, for the crowd during the cultural reception.

Guests had the special opportunity to enjoy Brandy and Vodka from Kazakhstan during the cultural reception.
