Panel Discussion | Unpacking China’s Military Decision-Making: Perspectives from the Region
VIEW EVENT DETAILSAsia Society Australia, in partnership with the National Bureau of Asian Research (NBR), is pleased to invite you to an exclusive panel discussion examining the impact of China’s military modernisation on the regional security environment and what this means for the future of stability and security in the Indo-Pacific.
Join us for an event with leading security experts from Japan, the Philippines, Taiwan, Australia, and the United States as we unpack the findings of NBR’s latest report with Principal Investigator Dr. Oriana Skylar Mastro and NBR President Roy Kamphausen. They will be followed by Michael Shoebridge, Director of Strategic Analysis Australia, Dr. Chen Yu-Cheng, Lieutenant Colonel and Associate Professor at the National Defense University in Taiwan, Dr. Andrea Chloe Wong, Non-Resident Research Fellow at the Institute for Indo-Pacific Affairs in New Zealand, and Shinji Yamaguchi, Senior Research Fellow at the National Institute for Defence Studies in Japan.
Moderated by Asia Society’s Dr Bates Gill, our panellists will explore the intricacies of China’s military decision-making processes and its approach to and views on crisis management and response in the Indo-Pacific. The panellists will explore each country’s operational encounters with the PLA and their impact on the evolving nature of the Indo-Pacific security environment.
Following the panel discussion, guests will have an opportunity to ask questions and share their perspectives. The event will conclude with networking drinks and light refreshments.
