NEW YORK, April 23, 2014 — Composer and musician Bora Yoon brought her distinctive brand of sound art to the Asia Society stage for a performance commemorating the release of her new multimedia album Sunken Cathedral.
Yoon creates audiovisual soundscapes using digital devices, voice, and found objects and instruments from a variety of cultures and historical eras. As she explained in the program notes, "My aim, with this performance work, is to blur the lines between performance and ritual, creating an immersive aural and theatrical experience."
Drummer and dancer Vong Pak joined Yoon onstage, and the multimedia component of her performance included short films featuring artist U-Ram Choe's kinetic sculptures — among them Custos Cavum, an Asia Society commission that was on view at Asia Society Museum in 2011.
