Video: On African Lives in China
On Monday, ChinaFile, the online publication for the Center on U.S.-China Relations, welcomed filmmaker and photographer Daniel Traub to Asia Society to talk about his new book Little North Road, a compilation of essays and photographs of African migrants in Guangzhou, China. The photos — which are mainly portraits commissioned by the Africans themselves — were taken by Chinese photographers Wu Yong Fu and Zeng Xian Fang, whom Traub encountered on a pedestrian bidge overlooking Guangzhou's "Xiaobeilu" neighborhood.
In his presentation, Traub shared several photos from the book and detailed the stories of the two photoraphers, themselves migrants who came to Guangzhou from China's interior provinces. Traub's presentation was followed by a conversation with Robert Pledge, the book's co-editor, C. Jama Adams, associate professor at John Jay College of Criminal Justice, and David Barreda, visuals editor at ChinaFile.
