SUMMARY:
The 2025 spring museum internship position with the Asia Society Arts & Culture team aims to provide a student with a well-rounded, museum-practice experience and offers an opportunity to learn more about functions within the museum, mainly in relation to publications.
In fall 2025, the museum will feature the exhibition Martin Wong: Chinatown USA, a monographic exhibition of the contemporary Asian-American painter. The internship will include projects based on the publications and content of this exhibition, including catalogue and didactics, and web content production.
The internship will provide a balanced picture of museum publications work and will include projects such as assisting with exhibition catalogue research, editing and producing exhibition-related publications and signage, updating publications history and archive, and generating and uploading content onto the museum webpages.
The intern will work closely with the Director of Publishing, as well as other members of the museum team, shadowing staff and attending planning meetings. Upon completion of the program, the intern should have a solid introduction to the workings of museum publications. In addition, the intern will gain an understanding of the Asia Society Museum’s role within the larger institution.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Researching, editing, proofreading, and participating in publications production including catalogues and didactics for exhibitions.
- Updating archive of other museums’ ephemeral publications
- Generating promotional content for programming on the website
- Attending planning meetings and taking notes
- Collecting and processing onsite visitor surveys for analysis
- Other duties as assigned
REQUIREMENTS:
- Must be engaged in an undergraduate degree program and not yet have graduated at the time of the internship.
- Familiarity with and/or deep appreciation of art history, museum studies, and/or Asian history and culture through academic study and/or work experience
- Well-developed research, writing, and editing skills
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail
- Flexibility with handling diverse tasks
- Ability to work independently as well as collaborate with a team
- Reliable, responsible, and able to meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, with knowledge of database programs a plus (FileMaker Pro, TMS, KE eMu, etc.) and CMS programs (Drupal)
