For our inaugural AsiaConnect briefing, Asia Society's Orville Schell will discuss the outcomes of the Chinese Communist Party's Third Plenum. At this meeting of the Party's Central Committee, President Xi is expected to unveil his economic reform agenda, providing important insights into the priorities and policies of the current generation of Chinese leaders.
Orville Schell is the Arthur Ross Director of Asia Society's Center on U.S.-China Relations. A former professor and Dean at the University of California, Berkeley's Graduate School of Journalism, he is the author of 15 books, including the recent Wealth and Power: China's Long March to the Twenty-first Century with John Delury. He is a Fellow at the Weatherhead East Asian Institute at Columbia University and a Senior Fellow at the Annenberg School of Communications at USC. He graduated Magna Cum Laude from Harvard University in Far Eastern History, was an exchange student at National Taiwan University in the 1960s, and earned a Ph.D. (Abd) at University of California, Berkeley in Chinese History. He has been traveling widely in China since the mid-1970s.
