Asia Society is delighted to host His Excellency Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of the United Arab Emirates, for an address. His speech will be followed by a moderated discussion on the evolving political and security challenges in the Middle East, as well as the country’s engagement with its established and emerging partners across Asia.
Speakers
H.E. Dr. Anwar bin Mohammed Gargash is a member of the Federal Cabinet of the United Arab Emirates, and was appointed as Minister of State for Foreign Affairs in 2016. He holds a number of other positions--he is the Chairman of the National Elections Committee, Chairman of the National Committee to Combat Human Trafficking, the Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Al Owais Cultural Foundation, a member of the Board of Trustees of the Emirates Diplomatic Academy, and leads the country’s team for the Human Rights Periodic Review. Prior to his current appointment, he was Minister of State for Federal National Council Affairs.
The Hon. Kevin Rudd is the inaugural President of the Asia Society Policy Institute. He served as 26th Prime Minister of Australia (2007 to 2010, 2013) and as Foreign Minister (2010 to 2012). He is a Distinguished Fellow at Chatham House and the Paulson Institute, and a Distinguished Statesman with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is also a member of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization’s Group of Eminent Persons.
