Desai in a lively discussion ranging across a variety of topics from the differences between Hollywood and Bollywood; the changing role of women in the film industry especially as directors and producers and the emergence of Indian women in leadership positions in the US and worldwide. Followed by a reception.
Mira Nair's feature films have been met with critical acclaim and box office success, they include: Salaam Bombay; Mississippi Masala, The Perez Family, Kama Sutra: A Tale of Love, My Own Country (HBO), Monsoon Wedding, and The Namesake. This fall saw the release of Amelia, Nair's big- budget historical drama on the life of the pioneer female aviator Amelia Earhart, staring Hilary Swank. Nair's other film projects include a short film on AIDS awareness (funded by The Gates Foundation) called Migration and Maisha, a film lab to help East Africans and South Asians learn to make films. Maisha is headquartered in Nair's adopted home of Kampala, Uganda.

President's Forum is a series of programs in which Asia Society President Vishakha N. Desai interviews prominent guests on a broad range of Asian and Asian American topics, including politics, economics, culture, the media, and Asian relations with the United States. Past guests have included His Holiness the Dalai Lama, David Rockefeller, Julie Taymor, Maya Lin, Thich Nhat Hanh , Amartya Sen, and Reza Aslan.
President's Forum programs are endowed by a grant from the Hazen Polsky Foundation.
