[POSTPONED] Book Talk: In the Garden of the Righteous
VIEW EVENT DETAILSOn Asian heroism during the Holocaust with author Richard Hurowitz
Join us for a special evening with Richard Hurowitz, author of In the Garden of the Righteous, as he brings to light lesser-known stories of courageous individuals of Asian descent who saved Jews and others who were persecuted and hunted by the Nazis during the Holocaust. He will share the stories of courageous diplomats such as Chiune Sugihara in Lithuania and Ho Feng-Shan's in Vienna, the Philippine effort spearheaded by Manuel Quezon, and the heroism of the Japanese-American battalion that helped liberate Dachau even as some of their relatives were interned by the U.S. government, and more.
Yad Vashem, the Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem, has recognized more than 27,000 individuals as “Righteous Among the Nations” — non-Jewish people such as Raoul Wallenberg and Oskar Schindler who risked their lives to save their persecuted neighbors. In recent years, as bigotry and intolerance have become increasingly more visible, it is important to highlight those who chose the moral path in spite of the difficulties that would come from defying authority, and serve as a good reminder that there is no act too small to do the right thing.
