Asia Society is delighted to host the Right Honorable K. P. Sharma Oli, Prime Minister of Nepal, for an address sharing his insights on the country’s uniquely successful, homegrown peace process; transition to democracy; foreign policy priorities; and fulfilling people’s aspirations for a peaceful, stable, and prosperous Nepal.  As the head of the first majority government in almost two decades, Nepalis are pinning their hopes on Prime Minister Oli and the newly formed government’s ability to deliver prosperity, political stability, and development.

Speakers

The Rt. Hon. K. P. Sharma Oli took the oath of the office of the Prime Minister in February 2018, after being elected for the second time to the post. He previously served as Prime Minister from 2015-2016, and was the first Prime Minister under the new constitution. He also serves as Chairman of the Communist Party of Nepal, the country’s largest political party. He has been for decades a prominent figure in Nepal’s political transformation and peace process. The vision of the government under his leadership is “Happy Nepali, Prosperous Nepal.”

Speaker Photo - Kevin Rudd

The Hon. Kevin Rudd is the inaugural President of the Asia Society Policy Institute. He served as 26th Prime Minister of Australia (2007 to 2010, 2013) and as Foreign Minister (2010 to 2012). He is a Distinguished Fellow at Chatham House and the Paulson Institute, and a Distinguished Statesman with the Center for Strategic and International Studies. He is also a member of the Comprehensive Nuclear Test Ban Treaty Organization’s Group of Eminent Persons.

This program is made possible through the generous support of the Nicholas Platt Endowment for Public Policy, and in coordination with the Asia Society Policy Institute.
