Asia Society continues an ongoing monthly series titled Films to See Before You Die featuring classic films and underseen gems from across Asia and the Asian diaspora with extended introductions by Asia Society's Curator of Film.

Four Filipina women navigate friendship and adulthood against a backdrop of martial rule in the late Marilou Diaz-Abaya's frank and unapologetically melodramatic masterpiece— the second in a loose "trilogy" centering women's lives and perspectives. The film was digitally restored by L’Immagine Ritrovata in 2017 using damaged and nearly-unsalvageable 35mm negatives from the collection of the Film Development Council of the Philippines.

Joey (Lorna Tolentino) likes getting high and sleeping around while fending off her true love; Sylvia (Sandy Andolong) is a single mother who forms an unexpected bond with her ex-husband's new boyfriend; Kathy (Gina Alajar) chases pop stardom despite her middling talent; and Maritess (Anna Marin) settles down to find her husband is controlling and abusive. Over the course of several years these fresh college grads slalom in and out of each other’s lives, sharing hardships, secrets, and no shortage of laughter. 2K Digital Restoration.
