Please join us for the India Prospective: 2013 event, hosted by KPMG focusing on the U.S. India business corridor. KPMG’s U.S. India practice is pleased to cosponsor this event with the Asia Society, the Consulate General of India, and the U.S. India Business Council.
The meeting will be opened by John Veihmeyer, Chairman and CEO, KPMG LLP, and inaugural remarks will be provided by Dr. Devyani Khobragade, Acting Consul General for India in New York. Speakers and panelists include Parag Saxena, Founding General Partner and CEO, New Silk Route – Growth Capital; Arvind Panagariya, Professor of Economics at Columbia University and Non-resident Senior Fellow at the Brookings Institution; and Ron Somers, President, U.S. India Business Council.
The business and economic environment in India has been quite turbulent during the last year. During the second half of the last year, the government has announced some critical decisions that have been welcomed by industry and investors, including opening up of retail and other sectors, postponing the implementation of Anti Abuse Rules (General Anti Avoidance Rules), a series of disinvestments in Indian Public Sector Companies, etc. In addition, important steps have been taken by the government to contain the fiscal deficit, especially by rationalizing the pricing for oil and gas in the country.
At the end of February, the government of India will publish its economic survey and submit its budget to the Indian Parliament. This annual event is an opportunity to hear informed views on the prospects and risks presented by one of the most important economies in the world. This informative event will be hosted by Arun Kumar, partner in charge, KPMG’s U.S. India practice. Vikas Vasal, Tax partner with KPMG in India (on rotation in the United States) will provide an overview of the budget and its implications on tax and investment.
