Great Soul: Mahatma Gandhi and His Struggle with India - Joseph Lelyveld
VIEW EVENT DETAILSMahatma Gandhi has long been considered a visionary and a martyr. But in this ambitious, original study, Pulitzer Prize'winner Joseph Lelyveld examines Gandhi's accomplishments as a politician and an advocate for the downtrodden, measuring them against Gandhi's own expectations and in light of his complex, conflicted relationship with India. In conversation with Arjun Appadurai, New York University.
Joseph Lelyveld's interest in Gandhi dates back to tours in India and South Africa as a foreign correspondent in the early years of a nearly four-decade career at the New York Times. He is the author of the Pulitzer Prize-winning book on apartheid Move Your Shadow: South Africa Black and White, as well as a memoir, Omaha Blues: A Memory Loop.
Followed by a book sale and signing.
