Celebrate the Year of the Dog!
Asia Society rings in the Year of the Dog with performances and traditional craft activities inspired by Lunar New Year traditions across Asia. Activities will include a Lion Dance and kung fu demonstration, musical performances, and more.
Schedule of Events:
1:15 pm: NY Korean Traditional Marching Band
NY Korean Traditional Marching Band will perform Salmulnori, which means “playing four things”: The changgo or hour-glass shaped drum; the buk or barrel drum; the jing or large gong; and the kkwaenggwari, or small gong.
2:30 pm: Bo Law Kung Fu: Lion Dance and Kung Fu demonstration
New York Bo Law Kung-Fu martial arts school presents a traditional Lion Dance followed by an interactive Kung Fu demonstration.
4:15 pm: Chinese Theater Works
Chinese Theatre Works is bringing a variety of shows to celebrate the festival including excerpts from famous Peking Opera and Kun Opera, Chinese folk poem singing, unique Yangzhou style rod puppet long ribbon dance, as well as live traditional Chinese music..
