Asia Society rings in the Year of the Goat with performances and traditional craft activities inspired by Lunar New Year traditions across Asia. Activities will include a Lion Dance and kung fu demonstration, musical performances, and more.
Schedule of Events:
1:15-1:40 PM - 2 Short Films: Hunchback’s Tale and What’s Yours is Mine
Two select short films from the 1001 Nights Series featuring episodes taking place in China. Hunchback’s Tale is told through a series of comical mishaps, where different people think they committed the same crime. What’s Yours Is Mine is the story of a fisherman who refuses to sell a pearl given to him by a mermaid.
2:00-2:30 PM - Lion Dance and Kung-Fu Demo
New York Bo Law Kung-Fu martial arts school presents a traditional Lion Dance followed by an interactive Kung Fu demonstration.
3:00-3:40 – Korean Drumming performance and lesson
NY Korean Traditional Marching Band will perform
Salmulnori, which means “playing four things”: The changgo or hour-glass shaped drum; the buk or barrel drum; the jing or large gong; and the kkwaenggwari, or small gong.
Expert drummers will teach you how to drum using barrel drums!
