VIEW EVENT DETAILSDiwali, the Hindu festival of lights and New Year, is a time to celebrate good fortune, family and friendships. Join us for a festive afternoon of special performances, music workshops, and arts and crafts in honor of this joyful holiday. Schedule: "Ramayana": 1:00PM- 1:45PM (Auditorium): Performed and choreographed by Smt. Swati G Bhise accompanied by the Sanskriti orchestra ensemble. Synopsis: A long time ago there was a great king called Rama who married the princess Sita. A great battle was fought by Rama and his army against the demon Ravana. After winning the battle, Rama brought back his beautiful wife Sita who had been abducted by Ravana .The people of the kingdom rejoiced and welcomed Lord Rama and his Queen Sita as they returned from exile by celebrating with dance and music. They decorated the city of Ayodhya with lights celebrating the festival of DEEPAVALI. Activities from 1:00pm-4:00PM (8th Floor) ' Create a Diya Workshop: Learn about the significance of the diya while making your very own to take home. ' Play the Tabla: A celebration is not complete without music to fill the air! Try your hands at playing the tabla with a professional tabla player. ' Design a Diwali Greeting Card: Exchange warm wishes with loved ones with a lovely hand-made greeting card. ' Try a Traditional Indian Sweet: During Diwali, sweets are often kept on hand and served all day long when expected or unexpected guests come to visit. ' Make a Flower: Flowers and flower motifs, which symbolize life and prosperity, are frequently used during Diwali to adorn homes and pay homage to the gods.
