GARY SILBERG, Partner at Global Automotive Sector Leader, is the Firm's National Automotive Industry Leader, as well as the Global Lead Partner for Ford Motor Company. Gary has 25+ years of business experience, including over 17 years in the automotive industry. He has advised numerous domestic and multinational companies in areas of strategy, mergers, acquisitions, divestitures and joint ventures. His specific focus includes helping clients identify and evaluate new investment and growth strategies from technology start-up companies to large scale multibillion-dollar investments.
For the past eight years, Gary has focused on the intersection of technology and the automotive industry with groundbreaking research on self-driving cars, connectivity and mobility demand services. He has also worked on some of the most iconic, complex and strategic transactions in the industry.
In particular, Gary has worked as an advisor to Ford Motor Company on its three most recent divestitures: Aston Martin, Jaguar/Land Rover, and Volvo and it’s recent multibillion AV Joint Venture with Volkswagen. He has also advised Chrysler Corporation as part of its transaction with Fiat and now is working on the Peugeot/Fiat Chrysler transaction. He also has extensive knowledge and experience working with tier 1 automotive suppliers. And he has assisted several start-up automotive companies in developing their long-term strategies and business plans.
Gary is also the chair of the annual Executive Automotive Share Forum Series, conducted in parallel with the North American International Auto Show in Detroit and Los Angeles.
He has written extensively about the industry. Gary also often provides media commentary on global trends in the automotive industry, including guest appearances on CNBC, Squawk Box and Bloomberg TV. Other news media interviews include The Wall Street Journal, The Economist, Reuters, Fortune, Forbes, Bloomberg, Wired, The Silicon Valley Business Journal, CNN Money, Industry Week, Outlook Business of India, China Auto and Yomiuri Shimbun of Japan and Automotive News.
ROBERT BURNS is currently vice president of human resources and administration for Hyundai Motor Manufacturing Alabama in Montgomery, Alabama. He is responsible for human resources, team relations, public relations, general affairs, and environment, health and safety at the facility that employs more than 3,000 team members. Before joining Hyundai in 2007, Robert spent 9 years working for Georgia-Pacific (GP) in Atlanta, Georgia. He was senior manager of communications for GP’s North American Commercial Tissue Business and Communication Papers. His experience at GP included directing public relations for five consumer products manufacturing locations, human resources and labor relations issues. Prior to joining Georgia-Pacific, Robert served in public relations and communications roles for International Paper and the State of Mississippi.
Robert graduated from the University of Southern Mississippi with a bachelor’s degree in broadcasting and a minor in communications.
DOUG MURTHA is group vice president of corporate strategy and planning for Toyota Motor North America (TMNA), responsible for mid- to long-term core business strategies, market insights, and new growth opportunities that support sustainable mobility for our customers.
Prior to his current role, Murtha was the group vice president of the Scion Division, with responsibility for all Scion activities.
Previously, Murtha was vice president of product planning and oversaw the development of new concepts and product strategies for Toyota, Scion and Lexus vehicles. In that role he was responsible for new vehicle pricing and cross car line product planning.
Murtha has also served as corporate manager for marketing operations in the Toyota Division. He joined Toyota in 1992 in the service and parts operations department and holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of California, Davis.
