1 p.m. | Elena Moon Park and Friends Musical Performance

Let’s ring in the Year of the Tiger with Elena Moon Park and her friends through a joyous celebration with music, movement, and stories!  We'll talk about some of our favorite Lunar New Year traditions from different parts of the globe, sing some songs, eat some food, and do some dancing.

Elena Moon Park is a multi-instrumentalist, educator, and producer. She is Co-Artistic Director of Found Sound Nation, which partnered with the U.S. Department of State Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs in launching One Beat. A global initiative, One Beat enables creative collaborations from around the world for the development of new and civically engaged music.

1:45 p.m. | Vân-Ánh Võ Sounds of Vietnam Musical Performance

Explore the world of Vietnamese music and culture through Emmy Award-winning composer Vân-Ánh Võ’s luminous voice, her mastery of the unique sounds of Vietnamese instruments, and her mesmerizing compositions inspired by traditional Vietnamese music

The founding director of the traditional music group Đồng Nội Ensemble, Vân-Ánh Võ is a multi-awarded composer who has collaborated with Kronos Quartet, Yo-Yo Ma, symphonies, dance companies, jazz and rap artists, and other World Music artists. Her productions are often created through workshops that engage various communities.

2:15 p.m. | Bo Law Kung Fu Dragon Dance and Kung Fu Demonstration

Feel the energy and rhythm of the beloved ritual of blessing the new year with a special virtual presentation of the lion dance plus a kung fu demonstration by Bo Law Kung Fu.

Bo Law Kung Fu is New York City’s premiere traditional Chinese martial arts school located on Grand Street in Chinatown that offers training programs for children, teens, and adults. The Bo Law Kung Fu Lion Dance Team has performed at many high profile venues and prestigious cultural events; as well as for television and film. 

2:45 p.m. | Chinese Theatre Works 

Immerse in a world of magical animals and creatures of the Chinese Zodiac in a new hand puppet Lunar New Year celebration. Featuring a cast of traditional Chinese "budaixi" glove puppets, and special guest appearances by Marco Polo, Sophie Hong and the Zodiac All-Star Travelling Troupe. See famous tiger idioms come to life. Watch Wusong’s epic fight with the tiger, and learn some ridiculous tiger songs and games. Download the Chinese shadow play puppet templates to make a story of your own.

Chinese Theater Works has won numerous awards including the highest honor in U.S. puppetry, a Citation of Excellence from UNIMA-USA, for Toy Theater Peony Pavilion. Cutting across ethnic and cultural boundaries, the company has performed original productions that draw on Chinese opera, folk tales, and literary classics as well as shadow puppetry, modern dance, performance art, European folk tales, and toy and object theater at international festivals.
