VIEW EVENT DETAILSInvitation Only Roundtable Discussion
The Asia Society Policy Institute (ASPI) is pleased to host a private roundtable conversation on security challenges in the Asia-Pacific with Admiral Harry Harris Jr., Commander of U.S. Pacific Command (USPACOM). Admiral Harris has led USPACOM, the United States’ oldest and largest unified combatant command, since 2015. He oversees approximately 375,000 U.S. service members and civilian personnel in one of the most critical regions of the world. In February, U.S. President Donald Trump nominated him to be the next U.S. Ambassador to Australia.
At a time of growing volatility in the Asian security environment, Admiral Harris has overseen the U.S. military response to growing provocations from North Korea, rising maritime tensions in the East and South China Seas, and violent extremist attacks in South and Southeast Asia. At the same time, USPACOM serves as the forward face of U.S. defense diplomacy, conducting military exchanges, exercises, and training with nations across the Asia-Pacific, sending medical teams to provide assistance to those in need, and responding to natural disasters and humanitarian emergencies.
As the Commander of USPACOM, Admiral Harris has managed the front line response to all of these issues. He will offer his insights on current challenges the United States faces in the Asia-Pacific as well as the future of U.S. leadership in the region. The conversation will be chaired by the Asia Society Policy Institute's Vice President Daniel Russel.
