Enjoy Asian Contemporary Art Week in New York Until May 31
Asia Society is proud to once again participate in New York City's Asian Contemporary Art Week, which connects leading New York City galleries and museums to create a citywide offering of exhibitions, lectures, conversations, and performances by artists working both inside and outside of Asia. Here's more background from our friends at ACAW:
ACAW's mission is to heighten awareness in the United States about contemporary art discourses in Asia by bringing together a diverse alliance of curators, museum directors, gallery owners, educators and collectors for an in-depth examination of current art practices.
Now in its eighth edition, ACAW extends beyond its usual format to encompass the entire spring season, March 1 to May 31, 2013. Through this season-long campaign, we capture select, exceptional Asia-specific programs planned throughout New York City. Also in 2013, a new initiative, The Curators’ Circle, will be launched, dedicated to the dissemination of knowledge concerning the activities of independent and institutional curators based in, or engaged with, artists living and working in Asia and abroad.
This year Asia Society Museum's contemporary offerings for ACAW include: Vandy Rattana's Bomb Ponds, an installation of photographs and a one-channel documentary video that explores the U.S. bombing of Cambodia during the Vietnam War; and Tim Lee: In Focus, an interactive multimedia installation titled Blowin' in the Wind, Bob Dylan, 1963, in which the audience is invited to sing along to the accompaniment of the Lee's guitar cover of Dylan’s iconic folk anthem.
