SUMMARY:
To assist the VP of Arts & Culture to develop the strategy and programs of innovative learning, engagement and outreach programs that will further enhance the reputation of Asia Society as a leading presenter and educator of Asian and Asian diaspora arts and culture locally, nationally and globally. To build partnerships and work with colleagues to nurture support and widen impact of the exhibitions and collections of the Asia Society Museum and broaden and increase the museum’s audience.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- To strategize, conceive and implement innovative learning (including symposium and artist lectures) and outreach programs focusing on exhibitions and collections of the Asia Society Museum, targeting audiences ranging from university to adult audiences, including young art collectors and museum supporters (up to the age of 40).
- In collaboration with Director (Culture and Diplomacy), Curator of Pre-modern Asian Art, and Curator of Modern and Contemporary Asian and Asian diaspora Art, to lead on the development and delivery of learning and outreach programs – research, planning, delivering, monitoring, and evaluation – ensure all learning and outreach programs are delivered to time, budget and a high standard.
- To manage program budgets and support with related financial administration, such as maintaining financial spreadsheets, assisting with budget projections, reforecasts and end of year accruals.
- To curate and develop program and projects collaboratively with artists, communities, Asia Society colleagues and partners – including but not limited to the recruitment, management and support of freelance artists and other learning/engagement/outreach practitioners
- To provide administrative support to the programs, including financial administration, collating evaluative data and report writing as required
- To work in partnership with colleagues from the entire Asia Society, including Digital and Communications, Visitor Services, Security Services, Events, the Leo Café and AsiaStore to ensure an excellent audience experience and cohesive programs
- To nurture a portfolio of partnership ensuring that Asia Society Arts & Culture maintain strong relationship with strategic arts and community partners
- To research and build relationship with new partners to support the strategic objectives of the programs
- To contribute to ongoing learning research programs, attend relevant conferences, festivals, exhibitions, and events, sharing knowledge with colleagues and the wider cultural sector
- To work with diverse partners, networks, and artists to ensure diverse, accessible and inclusive programs to attract diverse audiences to Asia Society
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
- MA in modern Asian art history, curation or education
- At least 3-7 years related work experience
- Wide knowledge of contemporary art, and fluency of at least one Asian language (preferably Chinese).
- Interest of a broad range of Asian arts, including pre-modern, and modern and contemporary art in general.
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:
Salary Range: $75,000 - $87,000
Compensation within this range is determined by skills, experience, and organizational equity.
