Frequently Asked Questions

How can I log in to the Virtual NCLC platform?

Entering the NCLC platform on Hopin is easy. Visit the NCLC event entry page: https://hopin.com/events/nclc2022. Then simply click the “Enter Event” blue button located on top of the webpage, and log in with your Hopin account.

The conference registration will close on Saturday, 4/23 at noon.

When can I access the Virtual NCLC platform?

The Opening Remarks and first plenary, “The State of Chinese Language Education & A Vision for the Future” will begin at 4 PM ET. If you have time, come around 3 PM ET to explore the Expo Hall and connect with colleagues in the Tea x Conversation 1:1 Video Networking.

If you signed up for a CELIN, CLASS, or NCLCC Pre-Conference Workshop, please check your email for special access instructions.

Please make sure to log in with the email that you registered for NCLC.

What should I prepare before NCLC?

Before joining, please ensure that you are using either the most updated Chrome or Firefox web browser to access the conference virtual platform. Apple's Safari browser is NOT fully compatible with Hopin.

Please watch a quick NCLC demo video to get a glimpse of Virtual NCLC before joining.

Note: for attendees joining from Mainland China, you may use VPN to access the conference smoothly. In case you may not be able to watch the live Plenary sessions, please go to a live rebroadcasting room under “Breakout Sessions” instead. We will provide direction inside the conference platform.

What technology do I need to prepare for the conference?

Here are a few tips to equip yourself with a smoother conference attendance experience:

  • Join from a compatible browser. Hopin works the best on Chrome (highly recommended) and Firefox. Make sure your browser is up to date. Please note that Hopin is not compatible with Safari.
  • Check your internet speed and network. We recommend a minimum of 5mbps download and 2mbps upload. Ideally, we recommend 30mbps download and 10mbps upload or higher for the best quality - test your speed here.
    • If you are using a VPN (network) or device provided by your employer, please ensure your device can access and share your camera and microphone.
    • Ensure you can access the following website domains to use Hopin: *.hopin.to;*.tokbox.com;*.pusher.com;*.herokuapp.com;*.mux.com;*.twilio.com.
    • You may have to check with your IT department if using a device or network provided by your employer.
  • Restart your computer before joining the event. This ensures that there are no other video applications holding onto audio or video for any reason.
  • Please use headphones when participating on-screen. This will help eliminate echo and feedback.

What can I do if I lose sound or can’t share my audio/video?

Please try these steps (in order):

  1. Check if you are using Chrome (highly recommended) and Firefox web browser
  2. Refresh your browser (This step usually solves 90% of problems on Hopin).
  3. Ensure your browser's permissions are granted to have access to your camera and microphone (in Chrome, type into the URL bar: chrome://settings/content). If you're on a Mac, ensure your browser has permission to record your screen (open your computer's System Preferences > Security & Privacy > Screen Recording > find your browser in the list and check the box)
  4. Quit and relaunch your browser
  5. Restart your computer
  6. Join the event in a different browser (e.g.: switch from Chrome to Firefox)

If I run into a technical problem, what can I do?

*If you are plenary speakers, breakout presenters and/or exhibitors, we will appoint a staff member as your point of contact.

For general technical questions, please try these steps (in order):

  1. Check if you are using Chrome (highly recommended) and Firefox web browser
  2. Refresh your page
  3. Quit and relaunch your browser
  4. Restart your computer
  5. Join the event in a different browser (e.g.: switch from Chrome to Firefox)

If there is anything beyond self-troubleshooting could help, please go straight to the NCLC Tech Support Booth located in the Expo Hall on Hopin for live tech assistance, or email nclc@asiasociety.org for further assistance.

Will the conference be recorded? Can I access the recordings afterward?

Your ticket includes the recording of plenaries and breakout sessions as available, so if you aren’t able to attend live - we got you covered! After the live event, we will send you a link to access the recordings which will be valid for 30 days. You can watch all of the great content anywhere, anytime.
