Financiers, Developers, Contractors, and others under the umbrella of the BRI should:
- Be resource-efficient and environmentally friendly.
- Promote and strengthen environmental protection to improve mutual understanding and support among host country governments, companies, and populations.
- Share China’s experience in green development, enhance capacities for environmental protection, and prevent environmental risks.
The Chinese Government should:
- Develop a support system for cooperation on environmental protection and risk prevention.
- Build platforms for communication, dialogue, and information support.
- Prioritize infrastructure and capability-building projects for energy conservation, emissions reduction, and environmental protection.
- Encourage the adoption of more advanced and environmentally friendly standards.
Developers and Contractors should:
- Observe the laws, regulations, policies, and standards of host countries on environmental protection.
- Prioritize the appeals of the local residents on environmental protection.
The Chinese Government should:
- Strengthen cooperation mechanisms and exchange platforms.
- Build mutually beneficial cooperation networks and platforms, taking into account local demands for green growth and sustainable development.
- Support civil society organizations (CSOs)/nongovernmental organizations (NGOs) in carrying out various environmental protection projects.
Developers and Contractors should:
- Release annual environmental reports.
Chinese Environmental CSOs/NGOs should:
- Build partnerships with institutions of BRI host countries.
The Chinese Government should:
- Understand the ecological situation and relevant requirements for environmental protection in host countries and regions.
- Identify environmentally sensitive and vulnerable areas.
- Conduct integrated environmental impact assessments (EIAs).
- Reinforce cooperation on environmental emergencies and early warnings.
- Sharpen environment risk prevention capabilities.
- Strengthen environmental management of overseas investment and develop a green financial system.
- Provide a consultative service for overseas projects concerning environment risk assessment and prevention.
