Interview with H.E. Shiferaw Shigutie Wolassa, Ambassador of Ethiopia
March 4, 2021 ㅡ Asia Society Korea continued its Ambassador Interview Series and invited H.E. Shiferaw Shigutie Wolassa, Ambassador of Ethiopia, as the guest speaker. Ambassador Shigutie talked about the unique coffee culture of Ethiopia, the oldest ancestor of mankind - Lucy, and Ethiopia's special friendship with South Korea, as it was the only African country to deploy combat troops during the Korean War.
About H.E. Shiferaw Shigutie Wolassa, Ambassador, Embassy of Ethiopia
H.E. Shiferaw Shigutie has been serving as the Ambassador of Ethiopia to the Republic of Korea since March 2019. He also holds position as a Member of Parliament (2015-present).
His previous positions as a civil servant include: Member of Ethiopian People’s Revolutionary Democratic Front (EPRDF) and Southern Ethiopia Peoples Democratic Movement (SEPDM) Central Committees (2002-2018); Board Chair of Addis Ababa University (2016-2018); Chief Coordinator for Democratic System Establishment Center (2016-2018); Secretary General of EPRDF (2016-2018); Board Chair of Development Bank of Ethiopia (2016-2018); Minister of Agriculture and Livestock (2018); Chair of SEPDM (2018); and Minister of Education (2013-2016).
Ambassador Shigutie holds a Master’s degree in Organizational Leadership from Azusa Pacific University at California, and Bachelor's degree in Accounting from Ethiopian Civil Service College at Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
