1979: Joined the Liberation Movement, the ANC and participated in the Anti-Apartheid struggle. Underwent military training and served the liberation movement in exile.
1991: Returned to South Africa with the unbanning of the liberation Movement and served the movement in various capacities during the negotiation period of the peace process.
1994: After the first democratic elections in South Africa entered the Public service
1994-1999: Deputy and then Chief Director in the Domestic Intelligence Service
1999-2009: Director General of the Foreign Intelligence Service
2010-2014: Ambassador to the Republic of Korea
