Join us at Asia Society Japan’s Art for Breakfast series as we welcome artist Soichi YAMAGUCHI. Discovered during his student days, Mr. Yamaguchi has grown into an established figure in the art world. He will share his journey, reflecting on the experiences and challenges he faced as an emerging artist.

Mr. Yamaguchi will also explore the influences and experiences that shaped his unique style, which invites viewers to experience his work in both 2D and 3D spaces. Don't miss this opportunity to hear from Mr. Yamaguchi, a distinguished mid-career artist, as he shares his insights and perspectives.

Speaker Bio

Soichi YAMAGUCHI
Artist

Born in 1983 in Chiba Prefecture, Soichi YAMAGUCHI graduated from the Tokyo National University of the Arts Graduate School in 2010. He won the Gold and Hiromiyoshii prizes at GEISAI # 9 in 2006, while he was still studying at university. In 2022, the work will be collected at the Bonte Museum in South Korea. He has participated in, and exhibited at venues in Japan and abroad, such as the 2008 Moscow Biennale. Yamaguchi's work is based on his visual experiences of things that fluidly change and can be perceived as optical illusions. Using vivid colors and pop motifs that move between 2D and 3D spaces, he mesmerizes viewers and challenges our visual perceptions.
