Asia Society Japan Center is honored to invite, Dr. Ken Jimbo, with deep insights of Japanese foreign and securities strategies. He is a Professor of the Faculty of Policy Management at Keio University as well as being concurrently an adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Tokyo Foundation.
We see ourselves at a crossroad with Prime Minister Abe’s surprise announcement to resign. Abe leaves behind a legacy, where in his long reign made 80 visits to other countries engaging in a strategic diplomacy with panoramic perspective of the globe. He built personal relationships with leaders and sold the Japan brand. In this roundtable discussion, Dr.Jimbo will take us through Japan’s foreign and security strategies for the new administration. He will explore what lies ahead and what to watch out in this year of challenging events, in particular the upcoming US Presidential Election.
Bio:
Dr. Ken JIMBO is Professor at the Faculty of Policy Management, Keio University. He is concurrently an adjunct Senior Research Fellow at the Canon Institute for Global Studies (CIGS) and the Tokyo Foundation (TKFD). He also serves as a Special Advisor, Ministry of Defense; and a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS).
His main research fields are in International Security, Japan-US Security Relations, Japanese Foreign and Defense Policy, Multilateral Security in Asia-Pacific, and Regionalism in East Asia. He has been a policy advisor at various Japanese governmental commissions and research groups including at the National Security Secretariat, the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. His policy writings have appeared in NBR, The RAND Corporation, Stimson Center, Pacific Forum CSIS, Japan Times, Nikkei, Yomiuri, Asahi and Sankei Shimbun.
