“The Future of the Art Market – Discussion of its Innovation & Evolution”
The art market as we know it is now changing. It has an undercurrent that is making art more democratic and transparent with the use of technology. The program’s theme is to capture the linkage between art + technology + business through the eyes of the artists, collectors and the market makers and connecting them to have an open dialogue of the art market today and what innovations are awaits going forward.
For this inaugural Arts Committee Signature Event, co-chair of the Arts Committee, Tsutomu Horiuchi notes, “Technology has innovated and opened up the financial industry and the wave has hit even the real estate market. ‘What’s the next innovation?’ is the question I often ask myself and now I feel the tech tide has hit the art world. Through technology, the art industry, often a closed world, can become more democratic and popular.” “Asia Society has a long history of creating a platform to exchange ideas and dialogues. For this inaugural art symposium, we want to create a space to have an open dialogue with artists, collectors, technologists, market makers (gallerists, auctioneers, etc) and explore and exchange ideas cross industries and sectors rather than those discussed in a silo.”
