In Practice: New Vocabularies for Craft

Since its inception, Asia Society India Centre has been committed to promoting and platforming contemporary art and artists from India and other parts of Asia. As we expand our footprint in the cultural landscape(s) of South Asia, we're excited to launch a long-term series of programmes that go beyond modern and contemporary visual art to explore craft and vernacular artistic traditions, exploring their history, evolution and intersections with other forms of creative practice across India and South Asia.
The series aims to span a range of virtual and in-person programmes, including webinars, roundtables, and immersive experiences, bringing together makers, entrepreneurs, collectors, artists, designers, and other stakeholders from the sector, in India and South Asia. With this new direction, we hope to create a platform where we can collectively question and learn about the myriad contexts of craft and vernacular art within a contemporary context.
