Members Only Invitation: The Art of Santiniketan
VIEW EVENT DETAILSJoin Asia Society India Centre in partnership with DAG Modern for the opening of the exhibition, The Art of Santiniketan, and a special walk-through with Kishore Singh, Head, Exhibitions and Publications, DAG Modern. This limited seating programme is for Asia Society members only.
The Art of Santiniketan looks at the seminal institution set up by Rabindranath Tagore and its most important constituents, Nandalal Bose, Ramkinkar Baij, Benode Behari Mukerjee and Rabindranath Tagore. In so doing, it sheds light on the significant modernising elements that marked a shift from the revivalism of the Bengal School and the academic realism that formed the curricula at various art schools and colleges in the period 1920-60. The discussion will be followed by a guided walk-through of the exhibition.
Kishore Singh has been a journalist, editor and columnist for three decades for Indian and international newspapers and magazines including GQ, Outlook Business, Business Standard and Business World. He has written scripts for documentary films, and is author and editor of a large number of books. As head of exhibitions and publications at DAG Modern currently, he is responsible for the research team that documents and curates exhibitions for the institution's historic shows in New Delhi, Mumbai, and New York, each of which is accompanied by significant publications on the art history of the country.
