Join us for a conversation with Jaco Cilliers, Country Director, UNDP India; Nicholas Dawes, Chief Content & Editorial Officer, Hindustan Times; Sruthijith KK, Editor-in-Chief, Huff Post India; Prerana Langa, CEO, YES FOUNDATION; Samanth Subramanian, Author; and Suhasini Haidar, Diplomatic and Strategic Affairs Editor of The Hindu which will explore how traditional and new media is being used to create a positive impact and to transform communities pan-India.
Jaco Cilliers currently works as the Country Director for the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in India. Prior to that, he was the Deputy Resident Representative for UNDP in Uzbekistan, where he was responsible for the management and coordination of program and operations. Cilliers completed his Ph.D. and Master’s Degrees from George Mason University in the US, and his BA and BA-Honours Degrees from Nelson Mandela Metropolis University in South Africa.
Nicholas Dawes is Chief Content & Editorial Officer at Hindustan Times. He was previously Editor-in-Chief at South Africa's Mail & Guardian, a role he assumed following a career as a political and investigative reporter. Find him on twitter @NicDawes.
Prerana Langa has 18 years of experience in CSR and community partnerships. She has worked on a wide range of social programs for YES BANK, ICICI Bank, Hindustan Unilever and other Corporates in India. Langa has been awarded the Swedish Government’s SIMP program grant 2013 to study in Stockholm, the international business potential of Corporate Responsibility. She has successfully completed the World Bank and the Harvard University South Asia Institute Executive Development Program in Corporate Social Responsibility.
Samanth Subramanian is the India correspondent for The National. He has written for the New Yorker, New York Times, Wall Street Journal, Guardian, Caravan and Mint. His latest book, "This Divided Island, Stories from the Sri Lankan War," won the Crossword Non-Fiction Prize in 2015. His first book, "Following Fish: Travels around the Indian Coast," won the 2010 Shakti Bhatt First Book Prize.
Sruthijith KK is the Editor in Chief of Huff Post India. KK specializes in developing the new face of Indian online media; prior to taking up the role at Huff Post, he was the Editor of Quartz India, another leading global news website. He has also done stints in the Indian Express and Asian Age; and has done his higher education from Delhi University.
Suhasini Haidar is the Diplomatic and Strategic Affairs Editor of The Hindu. Prior to this, Haidar was Foreign Affairs editor and prime time anchor for CNN-IBN and Correspondent for CNN International’s New Delhi bureau. Haidar has covered the most challenging stories and conflicts from the most diverse regions including Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Libya, Lebanon and Syria.
