Kashmir is a land of rich history that traverses through the lanes of kings, queens, poets, scholars, philosophers, artists and historians. The book, The Last Queen of Kashmir is the story of a 14th century queen, her transformation from a young girl to a great leader, her deft handling of invaders and immigrants and her personal alliances. As mentioned by Dr Pratapaditya Pal, “The author has succeeded in weaving together the history of the past and the paradisiacal landscape of his lost homeland with passion and imagination, a narrative that is at once poignant and evocative.” This book, that travels through some of Kashmir’s splendid periods, draws some fascinating parallels from the queen’s life with the current situation in the valley.
