Join us as authors Nandan Nilekani, Former Chairman, Unique Identification Authority of India and Viral Shah, Founding Partner, Julia Computing, reflect on how technology can reboot governance, in conversation with Reuben Abraham, CEO and Senior Fellow, IDFC Institute.
Nandan Nilekani, co-founder and former CEO of Infosys Technologies, was founding chairman of the Unique Identification Authority of India (Aadhaar). He has co-authored 'Rebooting India: Realizing a Billion Aspirations' and is the author of the book 'Imagining India', he was twice listed as one of the 100 most influential people in the world by Time. In 2014, he was awarded The Economist’s Innovation Award in the category Economic and Social Innovation. He is chairman of EkStep, a non-profit literacy and numeracy platform.
Viral Shah is the Founding Partner of Julia Computing. He has worked at the intersection of policy and technology at the Unique Identification Authority of India, where he led the design of the government’s payments and subsidy platforms using Aadhaar. He has co-authored 'Rebooting India: Realizing a Billion Aspirations'; is a co-inventor of the Julia programming language, and co-founder of FourthLion Technologies. He holds a PhD in computer science from the University of California, Santa Barbara.
Reuben Abraham is the CEO and a Senior Fellow at IDFC Institute. Previously he was Professor and Executive Director of the Centre for Emerging Markets Solutions at the Indian School of Business, and continues to serve on the Next Generation Leaders Board of the school. He was a Legatum Global Fellow for 2013 and in 2012, he was named to Wired Magazine's "Smart List 2012: 50 people who will change the world." He was selected as a Young Global Leader for 2009 by the World Economic Forum and was a TED Global Fellow in 2007. Abraham has received his M.A., M.Phil and Ph.D from Columbia University.
