The Asia Game Changer Awards are designed to fill a vital gap — identifying and honoring true leaders making a positive contribution to the future of Asia. The ceremony, originally held at the United Nations in New York City, honors individuals, organizations, and movements that have inspired, enlightened, and shown true leadership in areas that reflect Asia Society’s core pillars of policy and business, arts and culture, and education.
In its inaugural year, Former United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon saluted the “array of remarkable Asians” being honored, which included Nobel Peace Prize laureate Malala Yousafzai, Shanghai Normal University professor Zhang Minxuan, and Academy Award-winning documentary filmmaker Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy. Chairman of the Alibaba Group Jack Ma was recognized as Asia Game Changer of the Year for his philanthropic contributions and innovative vision.
Over the past 10 years, Asia Game Changers outgrew the United Nations and has gone on to honor trailblazers including Dr. Rajiv J. Shah, Alok Sharma, Sundar Pinchai, Naomi Osaka, Sunisa Lee, Michael Bloomberg, IM Pei, Yo-Yo Ma, Dev Patel, Indra Nooyi, and many more.
