Although the two masters never met each other, it was in 1921 when Feng Zikai visited Japan that he first time saw the art works of Takehisa Yumeji in an old book stall. He was then inspired by Yumeji’s artistic style and created his own style after he returned to China. Based on the story, the exhibition tries to introduce Feng Zikai and Takehisa Yumeji’s artist works to the public, as well as to explore the close relationship between them and the commonality and difference between their works. Around these topics, the exhibition is consisted of five sections: 1. China and Japan in the Great Era; 2. The Art of Takehisa Yumeji; 3. Takehisa Yumeji’s Impacts on Feng Zikai and Feng Zikai’s Self-exploration; 4. Feng Zikai’s Paintings; 5. The Difference between Art Works of Feng Zikai and Takehisa Yumeji.
Through this exhibition, it is hoped the audience can better understand Feng Zikai and Takehisa Yumeji as well as promote the cultural exchanges between Chinese and Japanese folk art, deepen people’s mutual understanding and appreciation towards each countries’ culture and art, and further improve the Sino-Japanese relations. The exhibition is curated by the independent curator Alice Wang and Wan Xinhua, director of the Nanjing Museum Institute of Arts.
