“My Voice, My Life,” a local documentary directed by Oscar winner Ruby Yang, chronicles the trials and tribulations of a group of underprivileged middle and high school students as they undergo six months of vigorous training to produce a musical. From low self-esteem to blindness, each student confronts unique personal challenges in the process of developing his or her character. Their life-affirming journey of self-discovery and growth challenges every parent, teacher, and policymaker to reflect on the way of nurturing the youth.
Asia Society Hong Kong Center joins hands with L plus H Creations Foundation in presentation of a screening of “My Voice, My Life” and post-screening sharing sessions featuring film director Ruby Yang who will lead students featured in the film in a discussion on the transformation they have gone through, and how students’ values, beliefs and behavior can be changed through such character education project. Four school principals: Fanny Lam, former CEO of Ebenezer School and Home for the Visually Impaired and retired Senior Official of Education Development Bureau; Bella Leung, Principal of Sheng Kung Hui Tsoi Kung Po Secondary School; Carol Kwong, Principal of SKH Bishop Hall Secondary School, and Veronica Yau, Principal of Fanling Kau Yan College, will follow the students’ sharing with a conversation on how their schools have incorporated character education into their core programming after participating in the project. The discussion panel will be moderated by Ada Ho, Director of L plus H Creations Foundation and Co-Producer of “My Voice, My Life”. The event will be concluded by live dancing and singing performances by L plus H musical alumni.
