In January 2020, Hong Kong found itself on the cusp of a new pandemic, and the start of a new decade suddenly became a mirror of 2003. Our experiences of today’s Hong Kong may vary, and the stories we tell may be different, but each story is a part of our history.
Constructing stories is one of the most fundamental means of making meaning; as such Asia Society Hong Kong Center is collecting the stories of Hong Kong people that are inspired by or are related to their experience with COVID-19. They will be shared with the community in our first-ever online exhibition.
Why Stories?
Unlike natural disasters, we normally do not witness significant material changes in disease outbreaks. But still, we experience unusual amounts of stress, anxiety and discomfort. Now is a time to organize our thoughts and emotions, exchange our ideas with others, and pass on the cares to the people and community.
Artist Intervention
To bring the stories to life and to help reinvigorate the local art scene, our curators and a select group of local artists will choose their favourite stories to interpret and reimagine. The artists will produce a piece of work, whether it be a live performance, video or artwork, to share with the community via the online exhibition.
Keep an eye on the ASHK YouTube channel for more information and inspiration on how storytelling can be used as an outlet to connect your observations and thoughts, unfold your emotions and express your interpretation of the current pandemic.
Your story is our history. Submit yours now.
