By 2025, China and India will be two of the world’s four largest economies, with bilateral economic ties ranking among the 10 most important worldwide. In “The Silk Road Rediscovered”, author Anil Gupta analyzes the growing corporate linkages between India and China as pioneering companies rediscover the fabled silk road which joined their nations in ancient times. Winning each other’s markets is also making them stronger and whetting their appetite for further global expansion. How have Indian companies such as Tata Consultancy Services, Mahindra Tractors and Sundaram Fasteners figured out how to win in China? What lessons do they have to offer other Indian companies? How have Chinese firms such as Lenovo, Huawei and Haier committed to India, and are they realizing the fruits of this commitment? Should company executives be looking to adopt a global rather than local perspective and what are their on-the-ground experiences? Join a dialogue with the author of ”The Silk Road Rediscovered”, Dr Anil K Gupta and Alan Rosling, former Executive Director of Tata Sons Limited.

Anil K Gupta is the Michael Dingman Chair in Strategy, Globalization and Entrepreneurship at the Robert H. Smith School of Business, The University of Maryland at College Park. He is widely recognized as a leading expert on strategy, globalization and emerging markets. Dr Gupta is also a regular participant at the World Economic Forum summits, and is a member of the Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Emerging Multinationals. He is the author of six books, most recently “The Silk Road Rediscovered: How Indian and Chinese markets are becoming stronger by winning each other’s markets”. He graduated from the Indian Institute of Technology at Kanpur and received his MBA from the Indian Institute of Management at Ahmedabad and a doctorate from Harvard Business School.
