In celebration of Women's History month, the Wellesley College Club of Hong Kong and Asia Society Hong Kong Center (ASHK) are proud to present a luncheon program and dialogue exploring themes of leadership, resilience, and empowerment of women across generations and borders.
Wellesley College President Dr. Paula A. Johnson will give a keynote address on The Power of Presence: Leadership Across Generations and Borders. Her remarks will be followed by a panel discussion on the challenges and importance of mentorship and leadership in a globalized world, with Wellesley Alumnae Lulu Chow Wong ‘66, Founder and CEO of Tupelo Capital Management, Jinqing Cai ’91, President of Kering Greater China, and Stephanie Lo ‘04, Vice Chairman and Executive Director of Shui On Group, moderated by CNN’s Kristie Lu Stout.

Keynote Speaker

Dr. Paula A. Johnson is the 14th president of Wellesley College. President Johnson is a pioneer who brings decades of experience in the fields of academic medicine, public health, and higher education. Since joining Wellesley in 2016, she has moved the College to the forefront of STEM education for women and has led the creation of the school’s strategic plan, which places inclusive excellence at the heart of the Wellesley experience.
President Johnson has held several leadership roles in her career as a physician-scientist. Prior to joining Wellesley, she served as the Grayce A. Young Family Professor of Medicine in Women’s Health at Harvard Medical School and a professor of epidemiology at the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health. In addition, she founded the Connors Center for Women’s Health and Gender Biology at Brigham and Women’s Hospital. President Johnson is a member of the National Academy of Medicine, which recently appointed her to its Commission on Investment Imperatives for a Healthy Nation, and of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences. She has received several honorary degrees and numerous awards for her contributions to science, medicine, and public health. Recent honors include: the Harvard T. H. Chan School of Public Health Alumni Award of Merit (2021), the Harvard Medal in recognition of extraordinary service to the university (2023), and an honorary doctor of laws degree from Princeton University (2024).
Born and raised in Brooklyn, N.Y., President Johnson attended Harvard University, where she earned her bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral degrees. She also trained in internal medicine and cardiovascular medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, one of the leading Harvard teaching hospitals. President Johnson has served on several national and international boards, and she currently serves on the boards of Rockefeller University, the National Association of Independent Colleges and Universities, and the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston.
Panelists

Lulu C. Wang is the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Tupelo Capital Management, which she founded in 1998. Prior to that, Ms. Wang was a director and executive vice president of Jennison Associates Capital Corporation for 10 years. While at Jennison which manages over 200 billion dollars in assets, she invested major funds for endowments, pensions and mutual funds. Before joining Jennison in 1988, she served as senior vice president and managing director at Equitable Capital Management, responsible for portfolio management, research, and trading of public equities.
Ms. Wang serves on the boards of Rockefeller University, the Metropolitan Museum of Art, Asia Society, and Columbia Business School. She is also a retired director of MetLife Insurance and a trustee emerita of Wellesley College.
Ms. Wang has been honored for her achievements by the Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Rockefeller University, Columbia Business School and University, Wellesley College, Asia Society, New York Public Radio, Girls Inc., the Economic Round Table, and Ernst and Young.
Ms. Wang earned a BA from Wellesley College, an MBA from Columbia Business School, and an honorary doctorate from Rockefeller University. In her free time, she gardens and with her husband, collects and rallies vintage cars. They also collect American paintings, furniture, and folk art.

Ms. Jinqing Cai was born and raised in Beijing. She started her undergraduate studies with Chemistry major at Peking University and obtained Bachelor of Arts degree from Wellesley College in Massachusetts, USA in 1991, and Master of Public Affairs from the School of International and Public Affairs at Princeton University in 1993.
From 2005 to 2012, Ms. Cai was the founding partner of Brunswick Group in China, a world-renowned communications consulting firm. Prior to that, Ms. Cai founded New Alliance Consulting International and managed the inaugural annual conference of Boao Forum for Asia as an exclusive public relations firm. From 2012 to 2018, Ms. Cai worked for Christie's, the world’s leading art auction house. Ms. Cai was appointed as the first Managing Director of Christie's China, becoming President and Chairman in China. Ms. Cai retains her role as a member of Christie's Asia Advisory Board.
Ms. Cai has been President of Kering Greater China since 2018, dedicated to enhancing the corporate reputation and visibility in the region, strengthening the connection between the group and its partners, supporting the long-term development of its major brands in the local market, and promoting the increasingly important role of Greater China in the global luxury market. She has received multiple honours such as “BOF 500”, "Forbes China Outstanding Business Women 100" and "Fortune China's Most Influential Business Women" for consecutive years.
Ms. Cai is the first female independent non-executive Director, and a member of the nomination committee and the corporate governance committee of the Board by XIAOMI Corporation. Ms. Cai is a Non-Executive Director of the Board of Mandarin Oriental International Limited. Ms. Cai serves as the Vice Chairman of the board of Teach for China, one of the leading non-profit organizations focusing on education equality in rural area in China. On September 27, 2024, Ms. Cai Jinqing was awarded the Knight of National Merit of the French Republic, a recognition of her leadership to promote Franco-Chinese business relations, as well as in art and culture, and sustainability cooperations.

Stephanie Lo is Vice Chairman at Shui On Land [272 HK], a leading real estate developer developing and operating premium residential, commercial and cultural properties in the Mainland China. Stephanie is also the Vice Chairman of Shui On Xintiandi, an asset manager of all Shui On Land’s commercial portfolio and development pipeline. Stephanie takes the lead on corporate development, business and product innovation of the Group and also assists the Chairman to define and execute on the long-term strategy for the group.
Stephanie joined Shui On Land in 2012. Prior to joining the Group, Stephanie worked for various architecture and design firms in New York City, amongst which was Studio Sofield, a firm well-known for its capability in retail design and hospitality.
Stephanie currently serves as a member of the Fourteenth Shanghai Committee of Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference. She was designated a fellow of Aspen Institute’s China Fellowship program and selected as a Young Global Leader of the World Economic Forum in 2020. She is also a Member of Asia Pacific Leadership Council of The Nature Conservancy. Stephanie was appointed as a Non-executive Director of SOCAM Development Limited in January 2019.Stephanie holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in Architecture from Wellesley College in Massachusetts.

Kristie Lu Stout iis an award-winning anchor and correspondent for CNN, based in Hong Kong. She reports from the newsroom and in the field on major news stories including US-China relations, the rise of AI, and the aftermath of extreme climate events in the region. She also hosts feature programs for CNN including Tech For Good, a series on the transformative power of technology, and Marketplace Asia, CNN’s monthly business program. Lu Stout also plays an active role in promoting the CNN Freedom Project, the network’s award-winning initiative focused on reporting stories of modern-day slavery and is proud to be part of CNN’s Call to Earth Day – a global initiative to engage students on the need for urgent action against climate change and pollution.
A strong advocate for mentorship, she enjoys coaching students and early-career journalists through CNN Academy, the Stanford Alumni Association, and the Asian American Journalists Association.
She holds a bachelor’s and a master’s degree from Stanford University and studied advanced Mandarin Chinese at Beijing’s Tsinghua University.
