In this evening program which is produced in conjunction with ASHKs current exhibition A World Within: The Art and Inspiration of Irene Chou, we invite Johnson Chang, independent curator and director of Hanart TZ Gallery (Hong Kong); and artist Leung Kui Ting to join us in a discussion moderated by curator Joyce Hei-ting Wong which will explore the art of pioneering ink painter Irene Chou (1924-2011). The program will begin with a screening of The Universe of Irene Chou (Zhou Luyun)—In Her Own Words 周綠雲的宇宙—她的心聲 and then conclude with a discussion to share more on the curatorial vision of the current exhibition, and consider Chou’s art practice in relation to the New Ink Painting Movement; Hong Kong modernism of the 1960s-1980s; feminine aesthetics and other personal stories.

The Universe of Irene Chou (Zhou Luyun)—In Her Own Words was commissioned in 2004 to mark the artist's 80th birthday. The short film shows Irene speak about her life and art, allowing viewers to catch a glimpse of the character behind her paintings.
